Northern Light Counseling's holistic approach emphasizes treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. Salt therapy activates the Parasympathetic Nervous System and allows the body to switch from “flight or fight” to “rest and digest”. The grounding effects of the cave also help balance the Central Nervous System and restore the body's ability to regulate itself in every way.
These amazing benefits are ideal to help remain calm and safe while processing through uncomfortable thoughts, feelings and/or behaviors with a therapist.
Counseling in the cave would be a great option if you're feeling anxious due to past clinical experiences, it's your first time working with a counselor, or you just need a little extra self-care!
Sandtray therapy has been recognized for its power since the 1930s, but recent advancements have shed light on why it is so effective. With the advent of fMRI technology, we can now explore how our brains process information. Research shows that the brain first processes images before attaching words and linguistic meaning. This aligns with our developmental experience— we naturally process visual images much earlier than we do language.
Consider this: have you ever encountered a picture that deeply impacted you, both physically and emotionally, yet found it difficult to express those feelings in words? This happens because our brains initially process information through images and visuals. This information is handled by the right side of the brain before it can be translated into words on the left side. Sometimes, these visual impressions may not always make their way to the verbal part of the brain.
The right side of the brain is where early trauma, feelings, and emotions are processed. It’s often the key area we explore in therapy. By expressing your world through sandtray therapy, you reveal deeper aspects of yourself that can accelerate our understanding and, ultimately, your healing process. This approach not only helps me gain valuable insights into your experiences but also supports a more effective and quicker path to recovery.
